The Team

We are practitioners of Ludodidactiek. We design, teach and coach professionals who want to make learning structurally motivating—grounded in real cases and long-term practice.

Ludodidactiek patch

How we work

Our work combines design practice, teaching experience and research-informed method development. We value clarity over hype: explicit design choices, careful facilitation and honest evaluation of what changes for learners.

Team members

Core team and honorary members.

Willem-Jan Renger

Expert/Designer · Senior researcher

Designer, researcher and educator specialising in Ludodidactiek: designing meaningful learning through play. Willem-Jan bridges theory and practice across education, culture and organisations. He combines rigorous analysis with playful experimentation to help teams build engaging, resilient learning experiences. Founder of Ludodidactiek.

Evert Hoogendoorn

Expert/Designer · Playful Learning

Designer, educator and co-author of Ludodidactiek. Evert works at the intersection of game design, education and innovation, translating complex ideas into concrete ludodidactic experiences. He has partnered with Willem-Jan since the early development of the method.

Eva Den Heijer

Visual artist · Game & educational design

Visual artist, play designer and educator. Eva combines strong aesthetics with sharp didactic insight. A veteran in the team, she contributed to the wider research community through her Comenius Grant work and continues to pioneer Ludodidactiek in practice.

Robert Stieltjes

Docent Ludodidactiek (HKU) · iPabo

Teacher trainer at iPabo and Ludodidactiek instructor at HKU. Robert pushes boundaries in teacher education and pioneered a large-scale Ludodidactiek implementation in the iPabo curriculum. As one of the earliest team members, his mountaineering spirit keeps the work ambitious and grounded.

Floor Roos

Docent beeldende kunst & vormgeving

Artist and gifted teacher. Floor’s friendly demeanour hides a sharp mind and wit—students encounter it when they need feedback but struggle to accept it. A long-standing team member, she teaches what she preaches and brings craft, clarity and courage to the work.

Jessica de Schipper

Management assistant (HKU)

Management assistant at HKU Creative Transformation. Jessica keeps our work running: organiser, guardian angel and practical anchor. When programmes cross weekends and evenings, she is there—coordinating, communicating and safeguarding the details. Without her, we would fail utterly.

Frank Leone van der Weert

Assistant professor · Professional learning & technology

Assistant professor and one of our Academic Field Agents. Frank brings Ludodidactiek into academia and keeps sharpening the method with research and practice. His game ‘Social Fabric’ became a highlight in our summer school; his wit and critical eye push us further.

Lorenz Boeckhorst

PhD student · Teacher trainer

Our first Academic Field Agent. Lorenz is known for designing sophisticated learning games—famously, one with six dice. He is currently doing a PhD in this field and is building an academic track for Ludodidactiek that connects rigorous research to classroom practice.

Ina van de Brug

Honorary member

Before Jessica took over, Ina was the steady guardian angel of Ludodidactiek—present even when it was still called Creative Design for Motivational Learning and Transfer. Now retired, her name remains connected to the roots of the programme.

Thijs Spook

Team leader (De Werkplaats)

Team leader at De Werkplaats Kindergemeenschap. Thijs pioneered Ludodidactiek in music education and developed so many successful games that he ‘bored himself’ out of the teacher role. When his career moved into management he stepped back, but his ability to organise playtests remains legendary.
